I found myself drawing in biro for the first time in a while today – I forget how strangely liberating it is. The messiness of the medium allows you go really free-hand without caring of the quality that the ink leaves.

From these ink drawings I found myself drawing figures similar to an older piece (Image 182, Mane) and this idea was born. Rather than large hair floating freely, I went down the opposite route, almost like hair-bondage.

This piece could of easily been quite sinister, but the subtlety of her smile makes it all a bit more friendly, and maybe a bit amusing. Hell, maybe I’m just easily amused by watching people create moustaches with long hair…

This was surprisingly quick to do. From my sketched concept (see inspiration) the final image here seemed to come so quickly and naturally. I wish all pictures were like that!

Process of how I got to this image. Started with a previous illustration (#182, Mane) and did some portrait skecthes with similar hair. Then I moved onto this final design

So, what do you think?
