I’ve had this one in my head for ages – someone fading into a mess of pixellation.

Did you know this year I’ve only done 6 images prior to this? I was pretty disgusted when I realised, so I went back to my to-do list of images I’ve wanted to do for ages. It’s quite different to what I had in mind originally and I tried a few different approaches at it. In the end I found the most subtle pixellation worked the best.
To keep the hand-drawn feel I manually coloured in each pixel/block, rather than letting Photoshop do the work for me. It was really good fun actually!

This is based upon a life drawing sketch and, I must admit, I did start off using a photo reference of a friend for the face. It’s not something I normally do as I don’t want to lose any style for the sake of realism, but I toned it back somewhat and feel really happy with it. It’s a happy medium between photo-realistic and my usual style.

Of course, when I say style it’s just my drawing habits; not always a good thing.

Anyway, I’m really annoyed at myself for not drawing as much this year. I know the issue, I intend to resolve it…
Hope you like!

So, what do you think?

excellent idea. it would also looks very interesting if the pixelation was gradual. but this has its own merits. and yes do more. 6 a year is shameful
